I think people undervalue word of god on things like this. Yeah, the creator said it. So shouldn't that settle it? If Stan thinks he's gay, that's a pretty good indicator. Not as solid as canon, but pretty damn close.

No, because it was settled by the published material that went through an explicitly anti-gay editorial process to meet comics code compliance. You don't get partial credit for napkin scribbles and water cooler conversation. If 80% of your ideas don't end up in the trash, either you, or your production team, are lazy hacks.
