I hope you're right, but the secret did say they were easily put off by the actions of the creator, so...

Eh, I think the word "easily" in that sentence could also mean:

1) I'm put off not just by a creator's actions (e.g. Roman Polanski) but by a creator's words (e.g. Orson Scott Card). (Though, personally, I'd argue that OSC's screeds are at the very least a call to action and that it makes complete sense to be turned off of his works as a result.)

and/or

2) I'm even turned off of what were previously my very favorite works.
