Ugh, Alfrid. The worst. To add insult to injury, I actually think the rest of movie was... rather good? So those scenes alone dragged the whole thing down.

All of those loose ends and even more could be resolved in that one scene! The Arkenstone is buried with Thorin. We've got Thranduil there like in the book (though I guess he's not returning Orcrist anymore) so that's a resolution of sorts for their previous bad blood, a little redemption for both characters. And then it's all the King's is dead, long live the King, and Dain is crowned! I went into the movie expecting this scene after seeing production stills of it floating around, dammit. We were so robbed.

The worst thing about Alfrid was they didn't even finish his character arc. Did he get killed? Does he starve like the Master in the book? Does he get away?

Have you seen the new Tolkien Edit? They cut out most of the Alfrid scenes. The ones they left in were good to illustrate what was going on with the Lakepeople. It was a much better use of his character. The Tolkien Edit made it clear how unnecessary all the rest of it was.

If it's any consolation, I'm almost entirely sure that the funeral scene will be in the EE. I think I heard that from one of PJ's interviews where he said there would be a half-hour more material. I think him and Beorn were mentioned.

You are right. It would only take one scene to wrap up a lot of stuff. Instead of giving Orcrist, Bard and Thranduil could give back the Arkenstone. That would be nice to see.

I have not, and now I have to see that. I can easily imagine it, though, because most of his scenes were completely unnecessary and could be excised with no trouble. You don't even have to cut the character altogether, just use him more judiciously.

I just don't know about the EE for these movies. Like, is it going to have that godawful Thrain segment they cut from DoS that doesn't even make any sense? Because I do want some of the extra scenes that we've been shown, but others... not so much.

Am I misremembering or was Bard not with his family and the rest of his people on the wall of Dale at the end there? Was that not implied to be when the funeral would be taking place? That would mean Bard wasn't at the funeral and... why the fuck wouldn't he be at the funeral?? I... just need to stop thinking about this, lol.
