Secret cosplaying is the best cosplaying IMO. But it's especially awesome if it gets you to do fun things you wouldn't do otherwise. This is a really cool secret!

+1 :)

(Anonymous) 2015-02-07 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Way to go, OP! Hope you enjoy it lots.

I want to get back into biking too, but I'm really self-conscious about other people seeing me exercise.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-07 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Is there somewhere you can go by bike? Maybe you can trick yourself into thinking of it as travelling and no exercise.

[personal profile] dreemyweird 2015-02-07 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep. Seriously, I've never even seen biking as an exercise. It has always been a means of travel for me.

This is an adorable secret, and I'm glad you overcame your fear of biking!

I haven't ridden a bike in many years, but occasionally I'll think about it and miss it. It's good excercise. (And fun, too!)

Damn, this secret reminded me that I should probably stop riding my 60-odd-years-old bikes. One of them already fell apart under me when I was fourteen, and though I keep obsessively checking their wheels before mounting them, I expect one day I may not be so lucky as the first time.

Go to a repair shop and get them looked at.
Better safe than sorry.

No such thing anywhere near the place where the bikes are. And none of us has a car. I think I'll just switch to riding the newer one (which was bought maybe a couple of years ago)&walking a lot. In the end, we will have to replace them anyway. Some of them are old enough to have seen the Stalinist USSR - any bike would start breaking at this point.

Glad you were able to conquer your fears.

Nice! I got into cycling through just stumbling on realizing that I enjoyed the hell of it, but sometimes I do things like... imagine I'm in Ralf Hütter's old bike club for motivation up a hill. Goofy fandom stuff can be so useful.

Image: Ash riding a bike

Text: I had a really nasty bike accident as a kid and was too scared to ride again for the longest time.

I only started again when I sat up and thought “shit, if I don’t ride a bike then I can’t be a Pokemon trainer!”

((Now I cycle everywhere it’s so fun and I have a pink bag like a pokemon trainer’s too. Living the dream at 20 years old))

Rock on, OP. Back when I could still ride bikes, I used to ride on the local bike trail and pretend I was a Pokemon trainer en route to the next town and gym. I even got ensnared into a double battle (so to speak) with a couple of large and very aggressive turkeys, once! Shame I didn't have any Pokemon with me, otherwise I wouldn't have had to spend fifteen minutes trying to keep my bike between me and the turkeys as they circled me threateningly and occasionally charged at me. Fortunately, my mom eventually caught up to me and distracted them while I ran off and found a big stick, channeled my inner Xena and charged at them, swinging wildly and shouting curses, which scared them off long enough for us to escape.

The moral of the story? Turkeys are evil and we shouldn't feel bad about eating them. Also, no matter how slow your biking buddies are, you should never leave them too far behind, 'cause you never know when you might need to use them as meat-shields. Yup.
