Hair removal has been around forever though, in just about all cultures.

Varying degrees, of course, and areas (like Elizabethans plucking off their eyebrows and hairlines to make their forehead look larger). But, like, ancient Romans, Greeks and Egyptians removed just about all body hair (including the hair on their heads for Egyptians), and both threading and sugaring are several thousand year old methods of hair removal.
