As an asexual person this thread is pretty depressing. :(

I wonder how many people think I'm incapable of romantic love because I don't want to have sex with anyone? Because that's what they're telling me in this thread.

Do people really think I can't tell the difference between what I feel for a close friend or for my partner? Or that it's no difference at all?

I'm married, for what it's worth, and happily so. But I'm still physically affectionate with my family. I can just tell the difference between sexual intent and non-sexual intent, unlike some desperate anons.

It's a different feeling, and yes, it is hard to explain. But I feel different for my wife than I do my best friend. And likewise, I feel different toward my brother than I feel for my best friend. All are equally strong bonds, but they're hard to explain how they're different besides "they just feel that way."

Someone upthread said something that was interesting and I think helps. Joy and elation are both types of happiness. However, they are different. Similarly, friendship and romantic love are two types of love. Sex and romantic love also fall under love, but are kind of like joy and delight. They're under the same umbrella, but still carry different connotations and are still different but similar feelings.

Give examples. Like motorboating is sexual because blah blah blah feelings but going to the movies is romantic because blah blah blah feelings or whatever. Anytime someone tries to explain the difference between sexual and romantic it's incredibly vague and I assume no one's on the same page.

Joy and elation and delight are different kinds of happiness. It's literally the same thing, except substitute sex, friendship and romantic love for those. They're the same general group of feelings, but they still bring to mind different feelings, right?

feelings tend to be vague and people are rarely on the same page about them, because feelings aren't quantifiable. If feelings were easy and people could easily be on the same page poetry wouldn't exist. Its not a math equation.

PS, I am a different anon but I think the difference is obvious. Like the difference between me kissing my girlfriend in the morning to say hi vs me french kissing my girlfriend in bed as foreplay. One has the intent to get my rocks off and one has the intent to just be close to her for a sec.

For what it's worth, I'm a homosexual person... Engaged to be married to an ace person. We started long distance, and we're absolutely in love and living together now. So don't lose hope, nonny, just because some people can't divorce the idea of romance from sexual attraction.
