Death of the author, though? A movie that shows a female character having agency, supporting other women, and not defining herself around her relationship to a man is feminist whether or not the writer chooses to personally identify as one.

Also, there are a lot of women who don't call themselves feminists because it's portrayed as being angry/bitchy/humorless or not shaving, but agree with a lot of the core feminist beliefs.

It's a little presumptuous to say that an author agrees with core feminists beliefs (especially when branches of feminism can vary wildly) and doesn't identify because of the stigima.

Uh if you think women should be equal to men then you believe in the core of feminism.

I hate getting into definition agruments, but feminism as whole has really only done work to promote woman to the level of men, not equal the playing field on both ends. (This isn't a bad thing btw, just isn't fighting for ~true equality~ like supporters like to say they are.)

This probably makes me sound anti-feminist as all hell, but I can assure you I'm not. Just endlessly frustrated at people forcing the label on people who don't want to be assiociated with it or insisting if you agree with the core beliefs you must take up a label, especially when they can't even name what branch of feminism they are or have an inkling of the movement's exclusionary history.

I... don't think you actually know a lot about feminism.

I... never insisted that anyone take up a label?

But there are a lot of women who believe that woman should have the same rights, pay, and opportunities as men, even though they don't use the word "feminist" to describe themselves.

(Also, when 95% of the time society is set up to favor one group, it makes sense that the priority should be working to work on the issues that benefit the disadvantaged group first. "Fixing" the five percent of issues that work to their benefit before the majority of issues that are slanted against them would increase the total inequality between the groups.)

Aaand I've probably just given a serious response to a troll. Oh well.
