Well, yes, it does sound ridiculous. Not only is the surgery invasive and requires a long recovery time, if it involves removal of the ovaries you're also looking at issues where your estrogen levels drop and possibly early menopause. Worst case scenario (barring death) is stuff like incontinence and vaginal prolapse.

Or you could just take a type of birth control pill that suppresses periods.
