35. Um, hon, I hate to break it to you, but... R/Hr? Set up pretty much from the first book. And I say this as someone who hates R/Hr and, if she were in the HP fandom, would probably be shipping H/Hr.

(Anonymous) 2008-01-04 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately also written like crap. Actually, JKR and romance shouldn't go together. Both R/Hr and H/G were done badly.

[identity profile] ryuutchi.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Says you.

[identity profile] jlarinda.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
But if she'd written H/Hr, it would've been a masterpiece?

[identity profile] mirwolf.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
xDD When I read your reply, my computer made a bizarre little dinging noise as if saying you'd got it right xP

(Anonymous) 2008-01-05 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
Didn't say that. Would have preferred no pairings at all. Read my words;

"JKR and romance don't go together"

I didn't say JKR and R/Hr don't go together, it's a blanket term- every main pairing in those books were full of WTF.

[identity profile] theguiltyone.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
every main pairing in those books were full of WTF.

Actually, that sounds pretty accurate to life. XD

I agree, to a point. Almost every pairing made me blink and go "Bwah? Huh. Didn't see that coming." Except R/Hr. I mean, geez, that just smacked me in the face from book one and said HI THAR I'M IN UR BOOKS FORSHADOWING TRU LUVZORS LOL. And Ron is my absolute least favorite character in the books (and I don't care that much for Hermione, either, unless she's paired with Krum) so I'm not saying this as a fan of him or whatever.

[identity profile] skullduggery.livejournal.com 2008-01-06 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
The only canon pairing I liked was Bill/Fleur. And that was because I was obsessed with that one line from book 4, and the other line from book 5.

H/Hr was my ship of preference but I was not fundamentally opposed to H/G. I just hated [a large majority of] the sixth book in general. The seventh was alright, a fun read. But the last two books didn't do much for me, especially not in terms of romance.

But I can't stand people who assume you don't look the sixth book because of shipping reasons alone. Blurgh.

Seriously, I'm glad she didn't write H/Hr if that's how she handles romance. Ick ick ick.

And for the record, I only thought R/Hr became "obvious" by the fourth book. Books one, two, three, and five (especially five) could have swung either way.

THAT SAID. Everyone is perfectly welcome to ship whomever (and whatever!) they please. This is merely my own personal preference and opinion. And if it offends you, then. I'm sorry, but we're just going to have to agree to disagree.

[identity profile] theguiltyone.livejournal.com 2008-01-06 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
Common sense offends people these days?

Oh wait. It's fandom. Can't expect everyone to have some shred of sanity, I suppose. ^^;

[identity profile] skullduggery.livejournal.com 2008-01-06 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, sadly. Fandom is so volatile anymore. It breaks my heart.

[identity profile] skullduggery.livejournal.com 2008-01-06 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
P.S. ORIGINAL POSTER... Whoever you are. If you are an rp'er, then I possibly want you for my harem of awesome.

[identity profile] bloodanna.livejournal.com 2008-01-06 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
In total agreement here. While I do like R/Hr the pairing that felt the most real and romantic to me was Harry/Luna and, from my understanding, JKR never really meant for it to be read that way. To tell you the truth I think the last book would have be much better had the epilogue been discarded just so the fans could have decided who ended up with who instead of it being shoved down our throats (I mean H/G, really?).

[identity profile] masakochan.livejournal.com 2008-01-06 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
Well...there's always EWE. (Epilogue? What epilogue?)

(Anonymous) 2008-01-05 11:13 am (UTC)(link)
Well, personally... I've started thinking the only hint to R/Hr is that they act like they're in love. There's never any indication that they really are compatible outside of that or even have similar interests... So I see it as an 'o

(Anonymous) 2008-01-05 11:14 am (UTC)(link)
... an 'obvious-because-it's-obvious' even.

[identity profile] shobogan.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, that's it exactly. I've felt that way for ages, which is exactly why I'm not very fond of it.

[identity profile] masakochan.livejournal.com 2008-01-06 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
*grins* Don't forget: Harry tells/reassures Ron that he loves Hermione like a sister.

[identity profile] kelpchen.livejournal.com 2008-01-06 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yeeep. Which isn't to say that it's out of the question that that dynamic can't be changed believably, but just. Yeah. R/Hr didn't come out of nowhere, and H/Hr isn't the Seekrit/Real Canon.
