I've never seen any of his films. Recommendations please for a good place to start?

Also, I only know about this guy because he was in The Winter Soldier as one of the must sees on Cap's list of things he'd missed.

Most typical of his work, I'd say, might be the "gendarme" films - there are several. Basically the ones where he plays the characters Ludovic Cruchot.

"La soupe aux choux" is a hilarious scifi parody with farting aliens, if you're into that.

"La grande vadrouille" is pretty good.

"Les aventures de Rabbi Jacob" is also pretty famous, but not sure how it would do with 2015 American sensitivities.

"Rabbi Jacob" is the biggest FUCK YOU to all racist people in the 70s (I think it still goes for our days)
But you're right, American and SJW sensitivities may not appreciate.

I've got a sft spot for "La Folie des Grandeus", a funny adaptation of Ruy Blas. It's just so funny.

No comedian today has a nose as impressive as that one.

Haven't seen this fella's movies but I am strongly, strongly skeptical of the idea that any kind of comedy ever goes away or that the standards have changed all that much.

Mr. Bones and Mr. Interlocutor beg to differ, boss.

Text: This is my absolute favorite comedy actor. I’m sad that today’s comedians can’t even coming close and the standards for what’s considered comedy have changed.

oh yes I love him!
