Speaking just personally, I don't want my teams' rivals to be terrible. I want them to be just good enough that my team can beat them in heartbreaking fashion every single year. Rivalries aren't as fun when there's no risk.

So yeah, I get where you're coming from.

I'm a Portland Blazers fan. All I want is intact knees. That would be plenty.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-10 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
This made me laugh.

I'm sorry. Really.

Wow, I had no idea Dortumd had slipped that badly. D: What the hell's gone so badly wrong there? Last I heard, Klopp was being lined up for a high profile Premiership move...

Well, to say that the first half of the season was crappy would be an understatement.
Injured players, valuable players that left the club, replacements that didn't immediately work out and some really crappy games added up to a horrible place during winter break.

However, I wouldn't call them as close to being relegated as the OP does. There's still almost half a season to go, if they get their act together the season might not end all that badly.

*grumbles something about Bayern München always buying good players just so other teams can't have them and never letting them play*

(Anonymous) 2015-02-10 10:53 am (UTC)(link)
Well it's not as if they're forced to join them.

When our big rival American football city lost their team, our entire city felt bad. Even now that they have a team again, it's hard to hate them with the same intensity that we once did because there is residual feelings. It happens.

TBF I think everyone feels bad for Cleveland in sports.

Assuming you're talking about Cleveland here...

(Anonymous) 2015-02-10 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
I am. LOL! But our rivalry was legendary. Not so much anymore, unless you only listen to the media.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-10 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
That's fair.

Do you think things would change at all if they were good at the same time you guys were?

Top image: a trophy case, with a logo “FC MAYERN” on the wall behind it.

Bottom image: A stadium packed with very organized fans who have made their logo

Inset: a picture of a white man wearing a hat, with stubble and square glasses, wearing a yellow sweatshirt.

Text: I’ve supported this team [Bayern] all my life. My parents took me to games when I was a small child, I practically grew up in the stadium.

Yeah, so the Dortmund-Bayern rivaly doesn’t really come close to United-City or Barcelona-Real but its’ been quite intense since the early 90s and so I grew up with it as well.

Now they’re [Dortmund] so close to being relegated; and I’ve realized I don’ t want that. Because I feel so sorry for them [arrow points to man in the inset photo “Most of all for him!”] and they really don’t deserve it.

I’m such a girl :(

It's FC Bayern München, not FC Mayern, transcript anon ;). The man in the picture is Jürgen Klopp, current trainer of Borussia Dortmund. (Aaaand that's all I know about that - I don't follow football at all but you can't help picking up things, it seems.)

The English here would more usually be "manager" - "trainer" would be the person who goes around making sure they're lifting weights properly and that kind of thing.

Just fyi

Funniest transcript ever! :D

I think they'll make it. Unless, of course, they have to play a relegation match agains my home town's team :P ⚜
For the sake of my mom though I hope that doesn't happen, because she's a Kloppo-fan aswell, and she'd probably prefer them in the same league so she can see him live more often.

Hello, fellow Bavarina (?), same here. Except I'm not actually a Bayern Munich fan.
But yes, I don't want Dortmund to get relegated either; it would be just wrong. My father was really worried about Hamburg, too, last season; he always says they're a "Traditionsverein."
So it's not because you're a girl. And it's not "weak" to feel bad for a rival. Don't be hard on yourself! I think you're much smarter than those fans who just see their team and nothing else.
