I don't have any suggestions, but one thing that might help you narrow down any list you make is to try out how well the dog would understand that you're yelling out for them from afar in an emergency, and to make sure that the name doesn't sound like any other command you might issue them, or words that commonly pop up in conversation.

My apologies if these are all things you had already thought about and I'm sounding condescending. :(

No everything is good and repetition is good! I'd thought about how I'd have to yell it but not about the commands!

I'm gonna be a first time dog owner, assume I know squat all

Wow, you're taking on a lot, then.

Names, I don't know.
Lightning and Thunder, maybe?

I'm not a total lost cause though! I've always lived with a dog - but it's never been mine so there's lots of little things I've not thought about like what to feed, what toys to buy etc etc.

They have names now :D Scarlet and Thistle!

Okay, then I'll share what I hope will help!

Dogs do not understand the concept of "just this one time". At all. Let them, say, sleep on your bed one time, and they'll expect to be allowed to sleep on your bed every night. Same with sitting on your furniture, or any other thing that they might see as a privilege.

They are hardcore creatures of habit, and it confuses and stresses them if you keep changing their schedules and your reactions to what they do.

Be consistent on what you reward them on, and what you scold them on. For example, it took us months to train our dogs to do their peeing and pooping outside, but it worked! It mostly went like this:

They pee inside. We say, without yelling: "no", and get them outside, even if they were done peeing already. As we take them outside, we say "pee and poop outside". Pick something easy like that to remember and make sure it's the same phrase each time!

We keep doing this over and over. When they do pee outside, we act super happy for them, cheering them on, clapping, petting their head, and so on. Make it super obvious that you approve of them doing that thing.

Accidents will happen, and they'll even test you to see if they can push you into giving in and letting them do as they please, but the firmer you remain, and the more you reinforce the routine, the faster they will adapt to it.

That is one example, but I hope it illustrates the point well!
