Some of the time.

Often I think the fan artists are just falling back on a visual convention because they're lazy and they know there's a ready audience for more of the same. How else to explain the blank non-hotness of some of the fanart versions, even altered to be more 'hot' with bigger tits and so on?

If that is the reason, that is fine by me. If a fan artists wants to gain fans, they need to appeal to the masses.
