Yeah, no. Not more snobby than people in any profession that requires jumping through a bunch of hoops. If this happened the way you're describing it isn't normal.

Did he say why it was "disappointing," though? You're saying you didn't get his comment. Maybe he'd strongly suggested people use his work because it's the best source on the subject? It's generally a good idea to follow any and all advice they toss to you.
