Depends on the characters. In Sherlock, it would be out of character if he didn't sign off a lot of his texts with his initials.

Depends on the age of the character. All the people over 60 I know sign off with their names no matter how often I tell them they don't have to.

Too funny! My adorable husband is exactly 60 and he not only signs his name, he includes an ADDRESS LINE :-D

(As in "Recipient name, recipient town, recipient country." Line break. "Dear recipient...")

Well, sometimes little things just do that.

In addition to the reasons you've mentioned, it could be the fictional reality - the conventions in TV shows or movies to make sure the viewer understands what's going on - like repeated mentions of names, a character over-explaining something, the memories that should actually be from a character's point of view (quite literally), but instead are an outsider/audience POV, etc. Sometimes, even if they don't do it in a particular show, but do in a lot of others, it just gets internalized.

Text: [first text box] Characters addressing each other by name and signing off really throw me off in fandom fake text, nevermind whether I find the content IC/entertaining in the first place.

[second text box] People really do that out of habit, OP. And it makes them easier to read. Plus, what kind of quality do you expect from these. -S!B

Honestly, I've never quite understood fandom fake texts. Mostly because I find the process so cumbersome and have a little brick phone, so fandom characters would mostly be cursing at the buttons and constantly running out of phone memory.
