I feel this about all my fics, even the fluffy ones. I feel so terrible for inflicting my writing on any poor beta.

The crazy part? All my betas know what each fic involves before I send the fics to them, and some even say they like my writing.

It still doesn't stop me feeling appalled that I'm making someone else read these things.

... but you're not FORCING then to beta via extortion or bribes or threats of violence, are you?

If not... consider that they might LIKE helping you clean up the fic. Some people wish they had the time/imagination/motivation to write, and I think that for some of them, betaing is akin to vicarious authoring.

Anon above

I know! And what makes it all the stranger is that I love to beta other people's fics myself.

There's no understanding or getting over illogical emotional reactions.

Sounds like you're just insecure about your writing. My advice is to just suck it up and learn to take praise once in a while. *g*

(Seriously, if you can find people who want to beta what you want to write, that's great!)

That's actually nice to hear and helpful. At least that would be something I could work on rather than nebulous guilt.

Thanks. :)

Depending on the fandom and characters, I wouldn't mind. PM me if you want to.

I might be interested?

Which fandoms are they?

I don't mind omega verse and I actively enjoy mpreg. Mind you I've been told I'm pretty critical (grammar Nazi ahoy!) so I'm not sure if that's what you're really looking for.

Let me know OP!

OP:

It's mainly MCU/Agents of Shield stuff. If you're still interested I have a tumblr you can contact me from (I also have some moderately good editing skills if you'd like me to return the favor)

I like MCU but I've never seen Agents of Shield so I don't know how helpful I would be there. I also haven't seen all the MCU movies (none of the Hulks or the Thor sequel). But let me know what your interests are and I'll see what I can do.

Where can I contact you?

Re: OP:

I can give you an email address:

eislermemorial@gmail.com

I hope that helps!

I'm usually less busy on the weekends but I may have time in the evenings too.

Haha, anon, you remind me of myself. I'm a person who writes/wrote exclusively strange subject matter for my fandom. Supernatural stuff despite the original source's mundane setting; comedy stuff that often picked on the fandom's tendency towards certain pairings; and even the most subversive subject matter of all: gen.

I would've loved to be beta-buddies with you since I can totally understand what it's like to write outlier stuff. Either way, don't beat yourself up too much about it. So long as you enjoy what you write, somebody out there will too.

I don't have a LJ, is there another way to contact you?

Text: I recently started writing fic again, partially because I use it to practice writing skills.

I’ve been looking for people to beta my fics (which has been surprisingly difficult, especially considering I’m in some pretty big fandoms)

but then I realized that sometimes my fics feature some really weird subject matter (mostly stuff along the lines of omegaverse and/or mpreg)

And I’m not sure if I’m willing to subject that on someone I barely know :/

Heh, I get what you mean, OP, but I think one of the pleasures of fandom is that you have to work really, really hard to come off as totally off the wall out there. Kind of like, at least we have names for those concepts, so people can pretty easily walk away if they want?
