Fanfic deletion has long been a topic of heated contention in fandom. It's... really not weird at all that so many people got their hackles up over this secret.

Still not a hill I'd want to die on, nope.

Nor I. I just find it hard to believe that someone could have such a strong opinion on the subject as to be "fundamentally opposed" to people deleting their fics, and yet somehow not realize that making a secret saying as much could spawn wank.

Hyperbole.

I don't really buy it.

LOL okay my good skeptic.

But even disregarding that, this is dumb as all hell because there actually are 2 separate issues being contested here:

1) If asked, "Do you think authors should delete old fics out of embarrassment?" I and a lot of people would say, "No! Argh, I hate that, happens to me all the time!" I might even say I feel... strongly about this? Like, fundamentally strong? (No, not really, it's a purely emotional preference.)

2) However, if asked, "Do you think authors are allowed to delete old fics for their own reasons?" then of course we'd say, "...sure. That's their right, even if we don't like it." You can make a morality debate out of this second question if you really really want to but that wasn't the issue in the beginning.
