Birth control question!

(Anonymous) 2015-02-13 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
After finishing one pack, can I start taking the next pack before the seven day break is over, in order to end my period early? Or will that mess up their effectiveness?

Thst will not end your period early. Sorry.

Darn it :( But thank you for the answer!

It will not mess up the effectiveness, but it won't stop you bleeding either, it's also not your period but breakthrough bleeding.

Ok, I didn't know that. Thanks for answering :)

It's not breakthrough bleeding if you're in the 7-day off week, placebo or otherwise.

Once your body starts expelling a discarded uterine lining, it can't really stop doing that just because you tell it to. UNFORTUNATELY!

I somehow thought I could, dammit! Thanks for answering.

Unfortunately once you've started menstruating you can't stop it with the pill. But what you can do (if you're on a monophasic pill) is take it continuously for 3 packs (by skipping the placebos) so that you will only have about 4 periods a year.

Hm, that is something I might consider, thanks. I do like having a monthly period, but they can be a nuisance.

As others have said, that last row of pills? They're placebos. Placed in the pack so that ladies can have the reassurance of a "period", even though it's not a period in the truest sense (it's withdrawl bleeding).

You can safely skip the placebos. In fact, I'm on BC for hormone regulation, and I take the "mini-pill" which is progesterone only. The one I use has no placebo pills, so I have a period every six months, maybe. It's quite nice.

Ok, I'm going to sound stupid, but I'm on a 21 pack, not a 28. Are the last seven pills still placebos?

NA

No, nonnie! I have a 21 pack too, and you finish the whole pack. And then when you're done the pack you just don't start the next pack for a week.

You take a week off not having any pills at all (period week), and then you start again on the next Sunday.

Ok, that's what I'm doing, thanks, haha.
