ayrt

Okay ... so basically it's a book with lots of canon slash potential that ends up focusing on het instead. That sounds disappointing. :/

nayrt - Well, the series began in the late 60s and its heyday was the 70s/80s. You're not going to find popular fantasy series with YA books chock full of slash.

I think there was a book of short stories that explored a gay dragon couple (and one was attacked by tigers and feared his lover would no longer find him attractive?)

and supposedly the newer books reference a lesbian. IDK. The whole tentpeg thing really soured it for me so while I've kept my fave books out of nostalgia, I haven't been so interested in the newer ones.

I think you're thinking of DragonsEye, which is a full-length novel set in the Second Age. The thing for me is that the gay couple is ridiculously cliche and sterotyped. The one rider who's gouged by the lion is so concerned his lover won't love him because of superficial scarring and is really effeminate.

I feel like Moreta's a better example. There's one gay character in there who's treated like a real person and is concerned about his lover who sick with the disease. Honestly, sometimes Moreta feels like it was written by a completely different (and better) writer.
