The Air and Space Museum in DC is always a lot of fun! As far as public transit goes, the Metro is reliable and there's a pretty good bus system. The information booths in the Metro stations will be able to help you figure out what'll work best for you while you're in town.

As far as food: if you're into Middle Eastern fare at all, you have to check out Amsterdam Falafelshop. It's so good. And pretty reasonable prices, too! Also, it's open ridiculously late, so it's awesome for a bite to eat after hanging in a bar, if you're into that, haha.

It'll probably help when I get a better idea of where I'll be saying and visiting.

I am not into Middle Eastern fare but that is because I have never had any! One of the things I am looking forward to is trying new food. Living in such small towns has really limited my food choices.

Falafel can be sort of an acquired taste! It's ground chickpeas/fava beans and some herbs/spices rolled into a ball and deep fried. I'm a very big fan, and that's my favorite place to go for it-- they serve it with warm pita and a huge slew of fresh toppings and sauces. The peanut sauce is like liquid crack, omg. It's so good.
