I am piece of that kind of human trash who just doesn't care if traits that I posses as person get presentation in media or not. Usually I keep my mouth shut, but I can say I would not roll my eyes every time I see someone bitch about this.
It is not that I wouldn't sympathize with any fictional character ever, or even identify with them ever - I do, big time, all the time.
I guess, for me personally, it is sufficient to see just one trait I think I posses in fictional character, even if they would be windly different from me in all the other possible aspects. That is enough to make me see bit of me in fictional character.
And really, though it is nice to see fictional character to be somewhat similar to me, it is not so important that it would be deal breaker if there was no one like me when I'm thinking if I want to see the book or movie or EI through to the end. Real and fictional people both, are more than just the skin colour, gender, sexual orientation, so on and so fort.

...I do not even know if the reason why OP doesn't like gay people in their evolving items is that they are not gay and I guess they feel little weird seeing gay people in those figments accompanying the set of clothes and accessories for your digital chibi paperdoll. But, I've made ugly assumption already, so I'll run with it. I'm no SJW but even I find it ludicrous when people on the more close-minded side see something different, let's say gay romance presented in media and they waste no time with letting the whole world know how they are forcefed "gross gay propaganda".

...I just hate most new Gaia item altogether, and no amount of gay romance can fix that.
