Not OP but I'm not sure that interpretation is justified

It could be, for instance, that they don't think that stuff is justified but also don't view it as a serious problem of social justice and civil rights, being as it is part of a video game

I'm pretty sure the 'mage rights' stuff is not really serious other than thinking that in game it is a serious issue and the OP is an idiot and/or thinks it's not an issue in game. Only person that brought up social justice and civil rights was you.

It could be. I'm not the OP and don't know their mind. Perhaps you are right, and everyone who does not share your opinions is an idiot.

Well...every now and then you come across someone who draws real world parallels:

http://inquisitor-desya-lavellan.tumblr.com/post/104937365201/you-know-its-funny-the-parallels-between-mages

They seem to be in the minority, though.

It's actually pretty common in some circles. How much you encounter them tends to rely on how unfortunate you are in your choice of favorite characters.

I'd say "see this thread", but I think that one has to be a troll.

But there's big a difference between "there is a parallel between this fictional issue and a real world social issue" and "this fictional issue needs to be treated with just as much seriousness as something that effects real-world people."

Some of the Mage Rights Activists are like that. Not all, mind you.

SA

Also, honestly, there's one anon in this thread who seems to think it's actually a serious issue and that disagreeing is like being okay with oppression IRL.

generally those against mage rights are against full mage rights considering the gravity of magic in the DA universe and the temptation of demons/blood magic. most people who take this view don't do so because they think it's just a video game, they just think it's reasonable to be wary of magic considering the context.

wary does not equal rounding children up into prisons run by drug addicts and taking away their minds when they won't take abuse like a good little slave.

dont get me wrong i am very much pro mage rights and think mage criticism as a whole is fallacious

im just saying for most of the people ive seen that are against mage freedoms it's not because they dont care about sj or whatever

(Anonymous) 2015-02-14 12:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Why would how someone feels about fictional beings in a video game have any bearing on how they feel about social justice?

i think youre looking way too far into this to the point of being asinine
