Don't get me wrong, it doesn't always put me off (I made it through every bit of The Authority I could find, and there were awful, awful periods of that comic) but I won't say nice art doesn't help. If the writing had been spectacular then I probably wouldn't have minded the art so much, but I wasn't digging that either. (I know Deadpool gets much, MUCH better, but I wanted to get the 'proper' experience. Not sure that's going to happen now.)

na

Good lord, The Authority. I swear that they drew Apollo looking like George W Bush half the time. It was very offputting, although I do like the series.

Hahaha, I wouldn't have said Bush, but Jesus did he get drawn as massive and unattractive at times. And I say this as someone who thinks Baird from Gears of War is hot, so beefy doesn't automatically mean ugly to me. (Super beefy looks absolutely terrible on Apollo.)

He looked so much better when he was a bit slimmer and prettier.

I think there's a difference between slogging through runs of a comic with ugly art and reading an entire huge, webcomic with bad art.

Like yeah I might read a comic with bad art because I'm already invested in the character or it's just a few issues of a run I'm already reading, but--- getting into an entire new canon where the art is bad and even later on it's still bad? I can't do it, personally.

(lol for the Authority I'm assuming that you're talking about Frank Quietly's run? They all looked like mashed potatoes.)

I do see the difference because with most comics the artists change frequently, but with webcomics if you don't dig the art you're stuck with it.

I mean, there's a chance it'll grow on you or the artist will improve, but I get why you wouldn't start if the art doesn't appeal to you.

(I don't remember which artist it was...But Authority had several painful ones. I wish I could forget the Christmas and Easter specials.
