Collaborative board games recs?

[personal profile] neurofancier 2015-02-14 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
I don't like competitive games because I'm a bleeding heart who feels bad when other people lose. What are your favorite collaborative card/board games?

I used to like D&D...

Shadows Over Camelot, well okay it might not be completely co-op if someone gets the traitor card but depending on your group make-up there's a good chance you'll all be good. And tbh even with the possibility of a traitor in your group it's still a fun game. Do quests, get the swords, win!

All the other co-op games I like are video games, Borderlands, Left for Dead 1 and 2, raiding in WoW, Dead Space 3.

Oh and D&D ofc.

Pandemic and Forbidden Island are both fun.

Pandemic and Hanabi aren't bad.

D&D is also fun if you have a committed group. Overall though, I like competitive games more. I can get a bit scary when someone betrays me (aka does anything I don't like).

There's also mafia which is a good mix of competive-ness and collaboration, but it's not exactly a card/board game.

Haha I totally feel you on the bleeding heart thing...also tbh I'm pretty competitive so I like coop games because then there's not a chance of me losing! But aside from what other people suggested, the ones I can think of are like semi-coop? Like Once Upon a Time is one of my fave games, it's not really coop but it's less about winning and more about ~the journey~ so it ends up being fun for everyone. Also Betrayal and House on the Hill is a ton of fun, has a ton of replay value, and is coop unless you're the betrayer, lol.

Eldritch Horror is *amazing*! The game will kick your asses to the end of the world and back, but it's great. It's 100% cooperative, and definitely worth the setup time :) very well-made and well-balanced game.
