I find Hussie's use of colors rather pretty if nothing else.

Hell yes. I know art is subjective and all, but it always get me a little when people outright say that homestuck is ugly because there are just so many beautiful and imaginative panels. The kids' planets are a category unto themselves.

AND OH MY FUCKING GOD. So I just googled "homestuck picspam" and the first result is one that I made back in 2012. WTF.



I don't know exactly how to feel about this. I didn't think I'd ever really contributed anything that memorable to fandom.

Maybe I should make an updated one for the anniversary in April...

see, parts of this are pretty, but those rocks and those clouds being a comparably warm gray are so hideously clashing with the rest of the rest of the picture that it's off-putting, the values are clashing so badly between the clouds and the sky that it's migraine-inducing.

...But that's not really pretty in terms of colours? i know "pretty" is subjective and all that, but the shades of grey are clashing as hell with the pretty nice blues...?

I guess it just goes to show everybody sees things a little bit differently.

I kinda think it's clashing, too. The colors aren't complimenting each other. If anything, maybe integrating the clouds a little with a color closer to blue, or at least putting a reflection of light on them, would make that shade of gray less... different. If you took a bunch of tones of gray together and put them next to those colors of blue, certain ones would look a whole lot better, but it's not easy at all to do.

the value of the cloud color and the sky are almost identical, but the saturation and hue are drastically different, causing a clash. there's a visual "buzz" around the edges of the cloud for this reason. they're too close in value and the hues are fighting each other.
