Yeah, that's an issue I had too. TG does humanize the Ghoul hunters a lot too, so that does work for me. But part of my issue with the series was that ultimately, I am kind of on the side of the humans. I don't think I could ever live peacefully with a species that *must* eat me.
It's a very flawed series, too - they cut a lot of stuff for the anime, and the manga does flow better (and is actually very beautiful). But I didn't go crazy for it, in part for the reasons you said, and in part because of some of the plot twists which I will not spoil for you.

Oh, it's good to know the other side eventually gets some sympathy, too, so far they've been portrayed as mean and sadistic for hunting ghouls that eat people. When I'm done with the anime, if I still like the series, I'll probably check out the manga, since the first series is complete.
