(Anonymous) 2015-02-15 07:22 am (UTC)(link)I'd agree that one of the most compelling things about the HP series is the universe, though I'd also point out that it borrows very heavily from well known British childrens' lit that came before it, such as Roald Dahl and Diana Wynne Jones. But JKR had other issues that might prompt someone to say she's not a fantastic writer. Her plots were very disorganized and full of holes and inconsistencies. Her pacing was terrible in Deathly Hallows. I'm sure there are more, but you get the idea.
