I have only ever driven in the U.S. but I've had the idle thought of what if I moved to Britain (unlikely, but hey) and tried to drive there. I'm sure I'd adjust but I'd be afraid of killing myself/someone else in the mean time :X

Did you actually experience this?

Yes. I learned to drive in the UK but spent a summer working in Europe. Left-right-left.

I was okay until a few months after I came back when I automatically pulled out and started to drive on the right hand side of an empty road in the UK. This is after weeks of getting it right. My brain just took over. Luckily I caught myself when a saw another car and it was still pretty far away.

At UK ferry terminals, the roads are all marked with huge KEEP LEFT signs painted on the roads coming right out of the port, and for a very good reason.

I don't know how lorry drivers do it.

It's just the same feeling I get when trying to read comics/manga/comics. That sort of cross-eyed confusion.

That sounds so scary. I'm glad you're ok!

I had a hard time getting used to cycling on the right after being in Japan so long. I'd kind of drift to the other side out of habit. It's a damn good thing I didn't have my license at that point... my friends who drive say it fucks with their mind, especially when doing turns.
