The only true diminutives I have ever found were ones for Fëanor's sons, because their fathernames were constructed in a way that could easily be shortened and retain meanings. Basically fathernames are the father's name with a modifier prefix referring to a major characteristic. The modifier could stand on it's own as a diminutive.

I've seen those in fics. I still think they look stupid. Elves have all the time in the world and language is so important. Just look at the big deal Feanor made about pronouncing his mom's name. I highly doubt they would shorten their names.
