I don't see that happening. Bucky and Natasha don't have the same history with each other. So, they could hook them up but there would be no compelling reason. Also, yeah, Clint and Natasha are a thing (in comics too?).

Granted, I don't think Steve/Bucky would ever be canon (though it would be awesome).

"Granted, I don't think Steve/Bucky would ever be canon (though it would be awesome)."

I agree it would be awesome but, like you, I don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell of it actually happening.

Personally, while I don't mind BuckyNat, they haven't really interacted enough in a meaningful manner onscreen for me to care.

See, I don't usually give a crap about worrying over canon orientation; shippers gonna ship, you know? But Steve Rogers is straight. He just is. I don't know why he's my one exception, but that's my brain for you.

Well that's fine. Just…it's not how a lot of people see him, you know? He's a character and thus is pretty open to interpretation.

I mean, even if the films had Steve flat-out express disgust at the idea of homosexuality, I doubt that would stop the shippers because it's so easy to justify that as internalized homophobia as a result of growing up in the 20s and 30s.

that doesn't really seem to be the line taken in a lot of shipper arguments tbh

Well sure, there are always crazies that are "MY WAY OR THE HIGHWAY."

I'm not trying to speak for them though, just myself.

Yeah, but this is comics. Every character has also died at least once. And Iron Man was a woman once (who married Captain America). And I think there were some dinosaurs in some universes. Canon isn't as unchangeable in comics as it is in other media.

I don't know if he's straight or not, but I get zero vibe of slash between Steve and Bucky in the movies. Bucky treats Steve like a kid brother, and Steve acts like he lost his best friend. They sure fight like brothers.

But people ship what they ship.

this.

Clint and Natasha do have a long and messy history in the comics, actually. Due to the sliding timeline, the earliest parts of it get ignored most of the time.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-16 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Do they? As far as I know, they haven't been together or even trying to be together since the early 70s.

No, you're right. Not so much "long" as "old."
