Second, I think the site was frankly always kind of shitty. Conceptually it was not great, and the actual definition of tropes and the way examples were done was just... really bad. It was just always a dumb site. And I think people finally realized that, partly because the controversy allowed people to look at it in a fresh light and emboldened people who had already hated it to make their points, and partly because fashions change on the Internet.
