I'm curious: why do people hate TV Tropes now? I've been banned for . . . three years now, I think? It was eating itself in an Ouroboros of wank when I got banned, but the only thing I've noticed about it since is that the tone sounds a lot more like Wikipedia now.

I hate it because it eats my time. Don't know about other people.

At any rate, I doubt it's going anywhere anytime soon. They just finished a very successful fundraiser to update the site.

I always assume it's the forums people hate, which I've never actually looked at, but if it's the trope pages themselves then I'd like to know the reason too. I love the site. It's a great source of inspiration for me, when I have a vague idea and I look at the tropes related to it and all the examples of them being used to come up with my own spin on it.

I remember that thread. They called me a misogynistic, pedophilic asshat who moonlights as a shitty writer. Still, that was three years ago, before Fast Eddie went completely bonkers and started banning all the "traitors." Surely the place isn't exactly the same as it used to be.

I think there's two reasons.

First, the general shittiness of the forums which we all know about.

Second, I think the site was frankly always kind of shitty. Conceptually it was not great, and the actual definition of tropes and the way examples were done was just... really bad. It was just always a dumb site. And I think people finally realized that, partly because the controversy allowed people to look at it in a fresh light and emboldened people who had already hated it to make their points, and partly because fashions change on the Internet.

+1 there's also some... questionable tropes. But of course you can't say anything about them.
