LJ Friend Question

(Anonymous) 2015-02-17 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
So someone friends you (from a meme or whatever) and when you check out their LJ, there's nothing you have in common, so you're not even really sure why they friended you in the first place. Do you friend them back anyway? Do you just ignore them? Or do you nicely tell them why you didn't friend back?

People still use lj?

Do they have entries on their journal or is it an empty account? If it's the later, mabe it's a bot. If it's the former, then maybe it's someone who is friending random people. It's really up to you if you want to add them or not, though. That used to happen to me all the time back on lj days.

They might just find you interesting, regardless of what is on their LJ. You don't need to friend them back - but outright messaging them to explain why you're not friending them back, however 'nicely' is pretty rude imo.

This happened to me on a friending meme that I did a few months ago on DW. We literally had nothing in common, not even a single fandom.

They seem to friend a lot of random people, so I decided to just leave it alone. I didn't tell them anything; I just didn't subscribe back.

The way I've always handled it is to see if they ever comment on my posts/if they make posts that I want to comment on. If they do, then I friend them back, because at least we'll have some back and forth conversations. If they don't, then I assume they mostly did it to fill out their friends list, and I just ignore them.

Granted, most of them seem to fall off the earth after friending me anyway, so the point is probably moot.
