Waste of space

(Anonymous) 2015-02-17 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Who would you consider completely useless, a "waste of space," someone who doesn't need to exist?

If someone hasn't done anything really bad, but hasn't done anything useful either, would you think of them this way?

If they were fun to be around, attractive, nice, and so on, would that help even if they weren't useful, didn't have a job, or whatever?

If I enjoyed being with someone, the fact that they are giving me that is enough to make them useful, I should think.

I often feel like a waste of space. I don't feel like I'm contributing anything really valuable but I'm not doing anything negative either.

You do contribute something <3 *hug*

i don't like thinking about it, but we're all probably someone's waste of space, honestly.

i also don't think having a job makes someone inherently useful either. depending on the job, their work might actually be a huge detriment to other people. it's also impossible to do nothing. you have to use resources of some sort to sustain yourself, some of which could have gone to other people. i guess it comes down to is your life inherently less valuable than someone else's and i don't think anyone is truly able to make that judgement call.

Well... I mean nobody really needs to exist, just in general. If you mean needs to exist for a specific thing, you have to specify.

I really wouldn't think of anyone like that tbh. I don't think it's correct to think like that, and it wouldn't occur to me to do so.

I refuse to view people in terms of usefulness (except myself; I'm the most useless person in the world and that's terrible :p). The inherent worth that is in each person is important to me.

I don't think anyone is completely useless/shouldn't exist. That's so not my call. There are people who are not useful in certain situations, in that they shouldn't be in a specific role, but that means that they change roles, not that they don't have one.

The only people I consider wastes of space are people who victimize kids. I don't think you need to contribute something to society or whatever in order to be considered worthy of life.

People who aren't willing to work. I'm sorry but I'm not going to support your lazy ass just because you feel you're too good to work. Fuck that. I understand people who have disabilities or other reasons where they cannot do it, but I hate lazy people.

Okay, what if you aren't supporting them, though? Suppose they're already wealthy enough that they don't need to work (like, say, they inherited a ton of money).

Would you still have an issue with them for not working?

Personally I'd say in that case it would depend on whether they're doing anything of genuine use or value or worth with their fortune. (Just making more money, or acquiring more power and influence for themselves and other rich people, does not count.)
