(Anonymous) 2015-02-18 12:54 am (UTC)(link)I had periods that would regularly land me in the hospital with uncontrollable pain and unstoppable vomiting. I saw a ton of specialists, but there was not a damn thing actually wrong with me from a medical standpoint, just severe idiopathic dysmenhorea (which is doctor-speak for "your period hurts like fucking hell and we don't know why"). I had to fight like hell to get pain medicine and then fight like hell to get a treatment that (mostly) works for me, after being told that it would all get better if I lost weight/gained weight/graduated from high school/quit school/got more in touch with my sexuality/stopped having sex/ate vegan/ate macrobiotic/at paleo/got married/had a baby/had another baby/got older than 35. (protip: I did all those things, and none of them helped. An IUD, and good painkillers? Those helped.)
You deserve to have a life that doesn't have to stop for a couple of days a month for biology gone haywire. Don't let anyone tell you to shut up and fight to find treatment and relief that work for you.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-18 01:10 am (UTC)(link)Everyone's are different.
Anon above is hopefully just lucky so far in their own experiences to make such a uninformed remark.
OP here
(Anonymous) 2015-02-18 04:01 am (UTC)(link)And yes. Every time I've mentioned it to doctors, they go, "Well, nothing we can do, but if you take the pill you'll feel great!"
I also just want to say how happy I am to see so many people posting about their own experiences. I'm really glad that I'm not alone on this and that people have some advice on this. Now to pull together the means for a specialist...
