I have seen plenty of talk about how painful menstrual cramps are on tv/movies and how it makes people feel like shit for the duration, but in reality the experience varies from person to person. I always get in a really good mood when mine comes around but most of my friends periods seem to pass by without any noticeable change or pain.

It depends on what your watching/reading, but I have seen plenty of variation when it comes to this topic. I'm sure there is some examples out there of extremely painful cramps, maybe it's not something mainstream but I'm sure it exists just not the norm because it's not a shared experience.
