I'm currently reading a YA novel called Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas where debilitating cramps are shown like this. The heroine has to skip a day of training for the tournament she's entered. Her maid is sympathetic. Her male trainer is not, until he visits the heroine and she throws up in front of him.

My cramps are often like the heroine's, so it made me strangely happy to read about her suffering, OP.
