This was always what we called my maternal grandmother, but it came about accidentally. I believe she wanted to be called "Grandma" but my older sister just heard our mother calling her "Mom" all the time and repeated after her.

Unfortunately, she died when I was a toddler so I don't have any real memories of calling her this; we did call the house that was hers "Mom-Mom's house" a lot, as her mother (my great-grandmother, whom we called "Nonna") and my mom's brother still lived there (caring for Nonna). When we got older, I think we called the house Mom-Mom's house and Nonna's house interchangeably.

For the record, we're Californians. I've never met another person who called their grandmother Mom-Mom!
