I once saw an anime fan ranting and raving because a female-looking male character in some show got together with a woman in the end. Apparently, "traps" have to get with men or else it ruins the fetish. He went on about it at quite some length.

There are, indeed, way more bi characters in manga & anime than in western shows but their depiction isn't necessarily any better than anything else.
