He died?! Did he come back to film that ep or was it just mentioned? Guess I should go back and watch the show again, I had sort of given up on it.

Btw, ITA with you, OP. I liked their relationship at first, but then he became a bit patronizing and (if I recall correctly) somewhat possessive. Like no one could mentor/advise Reid as good as he could. And then for the important stuff he always left it to Hotch.

Now, I always felt that the team's various relationships with Reid were a little inconsistent, but Gideon really was the worst.

I only watched a bit of the start of the episode and then wandered off to do other things, but all we (the audience) saw were the reactions of the cast when they found him dead, and a human-shaped lump covered by a white sheet on the floor.

They even say something to Reid like "we covered him out of respect to you". Ha!

The cast younger actors for Gideon and Rossi and did flashbacks to when the BAU was just starting out. They were looking for a killer back then, who Gideon was looking into in the present.

You do get to meet Gideon's son finally. And the actor they picked for young!Gideon was pretty good.

Ben Savage was a perfect young Gideon. I would so watch a prequel show starring him as Gideon.
