The awesome thread

I want to bring some positivity to FS!

So, what the last awesome act of kindness that you witnessed? It could have been performed by someone you know. It could have been done to you. It could have been a stranger. Anything as long it was good.

I just want to hear kindness.

I know a guy who owns a bicycle shop. He goes to the schools, has the kids write an essay about why they deserve a bike, then gives a free bike and helmet to the best essay.

That's terrific! Does that make him like a real life version of the guy in Pokemon games who just straight up gives you a bike?

I've never played Pokemon so I can't say. But he's a genuinely good guy.

da

You just go into a building, listen to a guy ramble on and on about his Pokémon, and at the end he gives you a voucher you exchange at a shop for a bike

the bike without the voucher costs literally more than the max money the game lets you have (like, it costs 1 million moneys and you can only make 999 999 moneys or something like that), just in case you thought you could save up for it or something

Ooh, ooh! I have a story about kindness!

We had a really bad Christmas back in 2009. It was foggy and raining, but we really wanted to take a walk, so we went outside, even though we'd get rained on. We had no umbrella or anything, we just needed to move around for a bit.

Halfway through our walk, a car pulls up! There is an old white man in it with a big golf umbrella. (It was near a golf course, though I don't know why he'd play in the rain.)

He pokes the umbrella out the window, so we don't have to get too close, and he says, "Here, you look like you need this more than I do."

We take the umbrella. He says, "Merry Christmas!" waves, and drives away.

It was a really nice umbrella too! ^_^ We used it for years afterward and it was the best we owned.

That is awfully kind! That kind of moment would stay with me for a very long time if it'd happened to me. I'm glad for you all. :)

Yes. He was very nice!

There have been very many kind strangers in our life. I feel very lucky and grateful for them. ^_^ This one didn't happen to us, but here's another good story about nice people!

We worked a little while for a little Buddhist nun, and she went to visit her mom. Well, she was coming back, only to find that oh no, there was no ride! She had missed the bus or something, and she was up the creek without a paddle!

So she decided to hitchhike. (This was in New Zealand, where hitchhiking is a little safer.)

For a long time, nobody comes. Then this big bashed-up truck pulls up, which is crammed with tools and junk. There's a big man in there, covered in tattoos, and he looks kind of scary. He says, "Want a ride?"

Now, little Buddhist nun is a tiny little old lady. She's a little afraid to take this ride from this big intimidating man! But then she sees, written in the dust on his back window: "I >3 you Daddy!"

She says, "Yes." And he drives her back home and is a very nice man and she makes it home safe and sound. The End!

I'll never get over the time when I was posting on Tumblr how I was upset about something, and suddenly I got a submission from a friend who I had honestly thought was too busy to read my posts. He wrote my favorite character interacting with a kitten just to cheer me up.

The pet store gave my new dogs some welcome gifts! And the mobile of a dog trainer who doesn't advertise! And lots of advice!

Oh! In the city today was the usual religous stalls handing out flyers at various intersections. Way preferable to random people at train stations, makes them easy to avoid if not in mood, is regulated, cops can make sure no-one gets abusive with them.

Anyway so there was a stall on Islam in their usual spot - but this time another stall was set up about 5m away from them, not so usual. But when I got closer it was a "Christians in support of Islam" and "Jesus in support of Islam" stall and I thought that was quite nice!
