What did the actor do? Elaborate?

IIRC, he quit the show by not showing up to a table reading and left everything in some disarray, and then publicly said he quit the show because he thought all the violence was... I don't remember whether he said it was personally traumatizing or morally wrong.

Ahh

He left the show abruptly without telling anyone. The showrunners had the season planned out with him and then had to scramble to fix it. You can really see the effect of it in that season; it has a really weird season opener that doesn't deal with the ending from the previous season (which is dealt with in the SECOND episode). He left right when they were going to start filming, and they ended up having to use an old episode that was scrapped. Apparently it's not the first time he's done it either.

But the thing that bugged me most was how he insulted the fans. He said something along the lines of not understanding how people could watch such dark stuff and saying there must be something wrong with them.

Ah.

Damn geez I can certainly see how that could piss someone off. I mean I can def understand being disturbed by it, but "there's something wrong with you if you like this show" just.....is being dickish.

If it makes matters any better, he's publicly admitted that that was a shitty thing for him to do, and he's acknowledged that he is not an easy person to work with.

But he hasn't apologized for his words about the fans.

This. It was highly unprofessional and a crap thing to do to your co-workers and the level of disorganization after his departure threw the series into chaos. I was surprised (and impressed) by how well they recovered and IMO, the show was better without him. I also think Mandy P. was either a hypocrite or making excuses for his behavior. Who thinks a show about hunting serial killers isn't going to be dark?? If he's got problems with violence and graphic material, why the hell join the cast of Homeland? It reeks of a bullshit excuse.

I thought I'd read something about him specifically disliking the increase in episodes where the cases involved extreme brutality towards women in what he saw as a titillating manner, so it wasn't just that it was dark, but that it was showing women being brutalized and degraded over and over and over. I can see how that could be very different from what he thought he was signing on for, but it still doesn't excuse leaving with no warning and talking shit about the fans.
