There's a big difference between "difficult" and "too fucking tedious to be worth one's time."

Having bosses toward the end cast super barriers that you couldn't break that didn't let you attack with magic OR physical attacks wasn't a challenge. It was fucking cheap.

No other FF has employed such cheap gimmicks. And I hope FFXII is the first and last to do it.

I didn't find anything to be 'tedious' really. I always found certain things in the previous ones more tedious than anything XII had to offer. Most people I talk to can't get past a no turn based battle system.

Play FFXI? I'm banking probably not. It's quite similar. So it really wasn't the first to employ 'such cheap gimmicks' as you say. It's all a matter of waiting for whatever effect the mob has up wears off.

Not being able to damage a mob for a period of time while they just wail on you and you have to stay alive? I, personally, would consider that to be a challenge and even rather exciting. I remember some of those epic battles quite fondly. To each their own I suppose. <3

I'm going to throw in one shoe with the anon and say that there's two kinds of hard: fun hard and tedious hard. I don't like having to grind levels, and that's what I seemed to end up doing all the time when I was playing the game. Difficulty in an RPG that can only be overcome by grinding is like... it's like the difference between how Contra is hard and how Devil May Cry 3 is hard. I want a challenge, sure, but I also want to have fun.

FFXII played like an MMORPG for me - and I have had quite enough MMO for one lifetime already. -.-
