46 - Ahahah. XDD I love CLAMP, but I also know how severely flawed and self indulgent and idiotic they (and all their series) are. I seriously hate that about the fandom; how they are utterly convinced CLAMP = masters of storytelling. XD

Haha, that's true. I only got into the CLAMP craze late, because I heard it was hot shit and SRS BUSINESS and everything was amazing. Okay, granted, perhaps Tsubasa isn't one of their BEST works, but none of the other series really struck me as brilliant and gripping either, and I was a bit disappointed.

I do enjoy it, don't get me wrong! It's just, thinking Tsubasa is the pinnacle of amazing because of the worlds crafted in there makes me LOL.

XD I do think Tsubasa is a pretty poor example - it's fun, but it's... it's CLAMP giggling about how awesome they are and re-using all their ideas and characters for kicks.

The thing about CLAMP, I think, is that it's all fun, but you can't take it too seriously. XD

My favorite is X, forever - but even that is basically camp. You read it and it's fun, and then you remember how utterly retarded and silly it is. XD A lot of the fandom is pretty good at that - using the series as a jumping point, sort of, into something more serious. But then a lot more of it is convinced that OMG IT'S THE SMARTEST THING EVER AND SO DEEEEEEP. XD

Q__Q I actually got into it by a CLAMP fan friend of mine, saying I should read X. I basically... read 2 chapters and got fed up with it. Same with... that one where Ashura originally comes from. I dunno it just got too boring for me, and I know this makes me a horrible fan but hnnnrg. I couldn't be arsed to press further.

And yes, the ones that preach about how CLAMP is a godsend and you shouldn't criticise ever because you'll never be able to do better weird me out. XD; Angel Sanctuary is so much better *SHOT*

Well, CLAMP TRIES to be deep... but it tries so hard that it kind of fails at it, imho. XD But that's why I like Kuro/Fay, or just focusing on characters! Fanfiction=win. ♥ Make it as deep and serious as you like~ XD

XDD CLAMP really isn't deep at all. I think it's more like, they have really good ideas and concepts and the art is certainly pretty... they just get bogged down in the execution of it all.

I did - and still do - love and adore X. But in many ways, X is also possibly the best example of just that: they have way too many characters and subplots and the story gets bogged down and distracted and drags--about ten volumes in they get a bead on what's happening and things go better, but--that's a lot of volumes, dude. XD;; And even so, too many characters and they start stories and drop them and execute them poorly... it's a mess. I do love X, but it takes forever to get good. It picks up in volume two and gets going in 5, but I think it's a case of "great ideas, good characters" over "execution and plotting."

What's fun, though, is that fandom can take that mess and turn it into a more cohesive story. Of course, the majority of fandom are elitist idiots who are morally offended if you so much as suggest shipping outside of canon, but besides that. XDD

I think that's mostly it. The execution focuses so much on the angst and introspective feelings of the characters that the actual events kind of get neglected. And this is Tsubasa, which was SUPPOSED to be a shounen action series. W-wut? XD;

Hah, I've heard horror stories of the movie. All deaths, basically... no point. Huh. XD;

That sounds awesome, actually. Yes, the number of characters introduced did frighten me off, I suppose. Ha ha, I was warned about the X fandom already. What's more, I like to crack!slash and then see how I can make it believable, so I'm pretty sure they'd hate me. Haha. XD

I... the X fandom makes me happy and sad all at once. I'm lucky that in it I focus on such a tiny niche - and don't have any of the "big names" on my flist (on purpose |D) - and so I stay out of it for the most part? While on one hand it's nice to have a fandom that's series about its canon, on the other hand, they take it to such vast extremes and glorify everything that CLAMP says - I don't know. XD It's kinda wanky in the opposite direction of most fandoms, I guess. Instead of "the author ruined the pairing/doesn't know what they are doing with this random thing," it's "CLAMP IS GOD."

On the other hand, though, most of the fandom has enough of a sense of humor to laugh about the utter ridiculousness of the series... in X anyway. To a degree. As long as you agree to their fanons and that they are always right and CLAMP is always the best. XD;; I'm not doing a very good job defending them.

Hah, I do the same thing. I was really into Tsubasa (and xxxHolic) for a while, contributed some things, but then... basically went into lurk-mode. The wank some people create over seemingly nothing, just, w-wut. xD; Hahaha, is that true? I was just following the Harry/Hermione wank on F!S a while ago, which was basically 'Rowling didn't understand Harry and Hermione at all', or... something. .__.; I suppose both ends of the spectrum are frightening. xD;

Hah, I always think there are more sane fans than obsessed fans, but they tend to go into lurking when CLAMP's concerned for whatever reason. ._.; That said, most BNFs I've seen in the Tsubasa fandom are really very friendly. XDb

^^;; Hahahah. My mother is Dutch and I have dual citizenship between NL and the US - I was going to school in Rotterdam (an international school) until last year. XD;

Anyway--yeah, I think that CLAMP fans are the opposite of crazy HP fans. It would be like, if the HP fans had gone - "YOU SEE? HARRY/HERMIONE IS IMPOSSIBLE AND A MORAL OUTRAGE AND ANYONE WHO SHIPS THEM IS CLEARLY RETARDED - ROWLING SAID THEY WEREN'T CANON SO YOU'RE AN IDIOT IF YOU LIKE THEM IN ANY CONTEXT."

Which is sadly enough, pretty close to some actual wank I've seen in CLAMP fandoms. .____. I do love X, but. XD The fandom is pretty small, especially on LJ. I learn which names to avoid for wank. XD;;

Anyway, no, the X fandom is still alive - just kinda quietly. None of the comms are really used anymore, I think most of it is just--you know, flist stuff. But I wouldn't say it's dead.

Although I think I'm one of only about ten people that actually write fic for it anymore. >__>

Nah, that's basically the same way I feel towards the Tsubasa fandom now. People get shot down for saying they dislike ____, and apparently a lot of Sakura-hating and wtfever. xD; I just look on at the sidelines and hope it dies down quickly .__. xxxHolic is better anyhow! *SHOT*

XDD I think the fandom's pretty much given up hope X will ever be finished. I actually like it better this way - it gives me the freedom to muck around pretty much however I want with the ending. XDD "I can kill him! And spare her! And no one can say it's wrong!"

Honestly, I never got into Tsubasa. I read the first three volumes because I am a hopeless fangirl *waves at icon*, but after that I only poked in occasionally for the X crossovers. XD I didn't get into xxxHolic, either - apparently I'm a Bad Fan. XD

Hah, CLAMP's just figuring 'errr mess, let's start anew'? XDb Hah, that sounds like a good solution. If I had my way with Tsubasa, NOBODY WOULD DIE but since it's a CLAMP title I suppose one must perish for the angst. Bahhh. XD

Baaaad fan. Capital B. I read both, but only because the two stories are getting entwined now and it'd be confusing if you were following one and not the other. xxxHolic is TOTALLY different from Tsubasa though, I'd honestly suggest to try it out, if only for Yuuko and Watanuki. ♥

I think I actually did read all of Holic that's been released so far. I just... found it really, really boring. And didn't like the characters. And the art style was too plain (which is of course subjective, but). And I found the mandatory crossover really pretentious of CLAMP - you know, "you have to read both series to enjoy either one."

I don't begrudge the people that do like it, but... I don't think I'll ever be one. XD

Aww. XD Well, I can't hold it against you, different tastes for everyone, I suppose. xD I just loved Watanuki, and the whole focus on Watanuki's emotions instead of actions wasn't as grating to me as it was in Tsubasa, where the focus was supposed to be on the action.

tl;dr- it doesn't pretend to be more than it is. It's just a cute little series, although what's happening currently has me going 'wtf CLAMP'. XDb I'm curious, though.

The only character I really couldn't care less about is Doumeki. I get that he's almost-canon for Watanuki but... he's so... BORING. XD

*laugh* I'm pretty much a failure CLAMP fan in general. I'm well aware of their flaws and don't hesitate to point them out; I've read all their series but only actually like one - and even in X, I only really like two characters and the rest I can take or leave.

I don't know what it was about Holic - on one hand I can see why people would like it, on the other... nothing seemed to happen, and the characters were all really flat and boring to me. I kept waiting for something to happen to make it as cool as everyone keeps assuring me it is, and it never did. Which is kinda like, whatever, I don't really care - but then I see all this wank when people DARE to dislike a character from Holic or something and I get kinda scared. XDD

Haa, I'll give it another swing then, but the shippers do scare me to pieces. XD;

Haa, yes, I keep waiting for something MORE to happen too. And like, now it's finally happening, and it's in that incomprehensible CLAMP way that makes you wait 10+ chapters before realising what was really going on. XD; But still, I think it holds a lot more promise than Tsubasa, and Watanuki is just cuuuuute. XD Even if he is a total cardboard cut-out at times.

XDDD There's wank over people disliking a character? Oh, like Himawari? I think most people chalk that up to 'gets in the way of Doumeki/Watanuki OTP' xD; Even when you have a good basis on which you dislike her, obviously the underlying cause is 'omg she stop DouWata', even... if she pretty much seems to encourage it herself. o_0; (For the record, I totally adore her XD)

It actually was Himawari wank, but in the opposite direction - someone posted in a CLAMP comm and mentioned in passing something like, "I think she's boring and unimportant to the story as a whole," and her defenders got really scarily bitchy in "sticking up for her."

It was totally immature and I was just .____. the whole time. The OP wasn't wanky, mind - just stating an opinion. Is that really worth flaming her about? Oy.

Again, I can see why people like Holic, I just... don't get it. And I admit it also gets a little annoying to see it praised in the typical CLAMP "BEST THING EVER CLAMP IS GODDDDD FOREVER" way - although they do that for everything. XD CLAMP tries to be deep, but they really aren't. I wish fandom would learn that. XD

Egh, I hate that too. I mean, you can feel that way just fine, don't push people into liking her simply because it's your view, as it will only have the opposite effect. xD;

Haha, yeah, that is my main beef with CLAMP, I think. Their idea of making everything deep and profound is by creating something so incomprehensible that it requires massive discussion to even figure out wtf just happened. Fay's backstory... I admit, it was angsty, but hnnrg, why can't they just tell a story without being totally enigmatic about it all?
