Re: Petty reasons for giving up on or not trying out a show, book, movie, or whatever

When my Mom was sick (she's better now), I tried watching Guardians of the Galaxy, but basically fled the room when the little kid was ushered into his mother's hospital to say goodbye.

I'm pretty sure it ends up she wasn't dying so much as something else that might be a spoiler, but I couldn't take that chance. (If I'm wrong, let me know. Please let me know.)

Firstly, that is not petty, anon. Not in the slightest.

Secondly:

*SPOILERS*

His mum does die in that scene, so you might want to give it a pass for a while.

I hope your mum is doing better now.

AYRT - Thanks. Does it play a part later on? I can always just skip and headcanon it that she had some other reason for becoming absent. :)

*SPOILERS*

It's treated as backstory, but it's not constantly referred to or anything. The scene plays out like this: he goes in, I think she dies while he's there, then he runs out and runs into a spaceship. And then it jumps forward into the future, so you could definitely headcanon it. :)

SA

Oh, I forgot to say - there is a letter from her later on! But it's right at the end, and easily skipable.

Other anon forgot to mention it's actually important in the climax of the movie. The scene gets a callback and it (probably?) saves Peter's life.

Oh shoot. Yeah sorry, forgot that bit. Thanks!
