Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality

I was surprised to find out earlier today that it's still going! (I had given up on the story about 30 chapters ago.)

And there's actually a recent plot reveal that puts the whole story into a different perspective.

I went to see the last chapter and...

It actually really depressed me. There's something about sociopath characters... :(

For anyone who doesn't want to actually catch up:

spoilers

Turns out that the real Harry Potter actually died that Halloween night as a baby. The Harry Potter we follow is pretty much a different style of horcrux of Tom Riddle which simply forgot he was Tom Riddle. (Which explains why he's always been so... off.)

This reveal does not please Harry very much (he still wants to, you know, not be evil), and he is trying to talk Voldemort!Quirrel out of villainhood. He's failing epically.

Woah, that sounds kind of similar to a plot point in the second story I ever wrote. Part of me wants to do something with it but the rest of me thinks it would just piss people off.

I think I've seen that premise about 3 or 4 times before, but those fics tend to be left abandoned. And they don't take dozens upon dozens of chapters to confirm anything beyond hints, like MoR!

If you want to do something with it, go for it! Who cares if it pisses people off?

Well with mine, the fact that it's not really the main character is known immediately. The thing that I think would piss people off is that I killed off the first person narrator and then replaced him with someone who thought he was the first guy. For as much as people praise GRRM, I feel like there's a reason really important characters aren't killed off all that often.

...I hope I'm not annoying anyone by making this about my own stuff. :/

OMG I FUCKING CALLED IT AND I ONLY READ LIKE 11 CHAPTERS

Well…kinda

This is my review for it on TVTropes where I mentioned it would be much better as Tom Riddle as the main character

In response to that review, if it still matters at all to you, I think Draco was different because Dumbledore had killed his mother years ago and his father became more protective of him as a result.

I didn't read enough to find out if it was true or not, but Draco didn't seem to be lying.

Anyway, YES YOU CALLED IT! :D
