The romance IS the main point of the movie, but to be fair, it's worth seeing for Titanic herself. James Cameron really put everything he had into recreating the ship/costumes/sinking details and it's just beautiful. (In fact I think their recreation and sinking of the Grand Staircase for the film solved a longstanding Titanic mystery for historians?) I would recommend watching it at least once if you can stand to, for the cinematic accomplishment of the setting, if not the story. Plus the sinking scenes kick so much ass.

Yeah, but the thing is? I promised myself I'd never watch it and it's not worth going back on a promise to myself, so yeah. Not gonna watch it. Unless of course I get alzheimers, amnesia or dementia and forget that I promised myself....
