I think he had a point too. I just disliked him because he was poorly written and acted like a whiny asshole a lot of the time

While I totally agree with you, I don't think he was that whiny. A manipulative asshole, sure. But he was no more whiny than Fenris. And that's unfair: everybody took Fenris seriously but they all mocked Anders and his cause. Varric was the only one who tried to be nice to Anders. And do not get me started on Sebastian! I've never hated a character more, not even Leliana.
