Re: Religion (or lack thereof) thread

I'm Mormon. Very religious, very spiritual. (And, for the record, I am pro-gay rights. The internets tend to define religion as "anti-rights and anti-science," which is bullshit. Bull. Shit. Gah. Just had to say it before continuing.) My religious and spiritual life are very important to me. I tend to slide a bit between literal and symbolic. I pray as well as reading the scriptures and generally thinking a lot about how I feel about the universe and why things happen in our lives etc etc.

I believe after death everyone ends up happy. Mormons have a pretty complicated outlook on the afterlife, but for me, it all boils down to everyone ending up comfortable and happy and loved. No matter who you are or what you do, God loves you, and He wants you to find joy.

It's bullshit for a lot of religious people, but not all. It's also particularly difficult to call BS when so much of American politics and social issues are impacted by peoples' religious beliefs. While you yourself may not support anti-gay legislation, your church isn't quite so generous. Just like how there are plenty of Christians who are not anti-science, but that doesn't stop textbooks and school systems from trying to repress lessons on evolution and actual history in favor of "Intelligent Design" and a rewritten alternate history where slaves were happy and the Founding Fathers were all Christians.

NAYRT, but... wow. I actually found OP's post interesting. Why attack them for assholes they can't do a thing about?
