As far as I recall, negative numbers for affection are possible, which is the only reason it works.

You'd probably have a way easier time of this on an emulator. As I recall it took having a new game+ save file to be able to breed the gold chocobo (which therefore opens up the world map and lets you break the order sequence if you get it in the early game) in order to do it.

...I never said it was easy to get, I just said it was possible.

Okay, now I'm sure you're messing with me. There's no New Game + option on Final Fantasy VII.

I'm not, I just don't remember which of my playthroughs it was on and whether or not I used a Gameshark on the specific playthrough.

You'll have to take it with a grain of salt, since this was literally back in 1997.

I remember there was absolutely no dialogue, and the FMV cut out halfway through. It was definitely not within the game's normal functioning, but it really happened.
