Image: A JRPG battle scenario.

Text: It sounds masochistic, but I like it when enemies can do the same battle things than the PCs. Seems fair.

(spoilers for transistor in comment)

I totally get what you mean! It adds a bit of tension. I especially loved the way Transistor did this. You spend the whole game with the ability to freeze time, plan your moves, and execute them super-fast...and then the final boss has that same ability, and you get to sit there frozen while he hums and haws and plans out his attacks. I just thought it was a neat little twist.

I'm assuming you're ESL, so It should be "can do the same battle things as the PCs". "Than" is for when you're comparing things.

Okay, but why'd you have to choose a screenshot of that game? It's completely horrible and I don't like to remember that it exists. :(

Aww, I actually loved it a lot. The battle system was a ton of fun and I liked the new characters and the way they showed that the world didn't just magically go back to being happy and peaceful once the two worlds were reunited. I appreciated that they explored the effects of shoving two completely different world together on the people who had to deal with it. It added a lot of depth to the setting as a whole.

it did awful, unspeakable things to the old characters, though

That's my favorite kind of battle, honestly. It makes you think on your feet a lot more when your enemy is capable of slinging the exact same attack you unleashed on them right back in your face.

Way back in late-80s arcade days, my favorite game was Rolling Thunder, and one of the reasons was that the bad guys were the same size as the player character, they moved just as fast, and their bullets weren't slower than the player's.

That way, when you mowed down a dozen of them, it felt like you'd beaten them in a fair fight, as opposed to killing the obviously-handicapped enemies in most games.

I hate it, when the gym leaders started to be able to use potions in Pokemon I wanted to tear my hair out

Which Tales game is this?
